CBD development hits new heights

The latest Multiplex development in Melbourne’s CBD has hit new heights, reaching its 70-storey building height in construction.

‘Light House’ is a $170 million high-rise residential tower located at 450 Elizabeth Street in Melbourne’s CBD.

The project will comprise of 607 apartments with views over the city and Port Phillip Bay.

“We are delighted to achieve this milestone on Light House. There have been many challenges to get to this point with the small building footprint requiring a complex delivery and loading schedule. Our experience and upfront detailed project logistic planning enables us to counter the complexities of building towers within active CBD environments,” said Mr Graham Cottam, regional managing director of Multiplex Victoria.

“Precast and prefabricated components have been utilised in some parts of the construction methodology to improve on-site speed and work within the constraints of a small CBD site,” said Mr Cottam.

The tower will consist of 66 levels of apartments, including one-, two- and three-bedroom options with a lobby and retail space across the first levels.

Residents will have access to a gymnasium, private dining and entertainment rooms, a 25-metre lap pool, 157 automated car stacker spaces and 201 bicycle racks.

It is anticipated that construction will finish on the building by August 2017.
